Actions and Behavior Prohibited on Campus

Individuals who violate laws or who commit criminal offenses on campus or at College functions will be prosecuted.

Drugs and Alcohol

The use, possession, distribution, and/or sale of controlled substances are against the law. Possession, consumption, use and/or transfer of controlled substances, including alcoholic beverages, are strictly forbidden on College property. For the policy on drug and alcohol abuse refer to Appendix B in the Student Handbook.

Trespassing

Entry to College facilities is limited to students, faculty, staff and College-invited guests. Visitors must report to the Student Services receptionist. Trespassers will be prosecuted.

Sound Amplification

Any sound amplification equipment (including radios, cassette recorders and CD players) must be played with earphones and must not disturb others.

Smoking

By order of the Board of Trustees, smoking is prohibited in SCC buildings. Smoking is allowed only in designated outdoor areas as marked by signage and smokers are asked to please use the proper smoking receptacles. For the smoking policy, refer to Appendix A of the Student Handbook.

Firearms, Weapons and Explosives

Firearms, ammunition, explosives, other weapons and firecrackers are strictly forbidden on College property or at SCC functions.

Sexual Harassment

SCC policy prohibits sexual harassment in any form. Students who believe they have experienced sexual harassment should contact Assistant Dean of Student Services Joan Wilson at 351-2709. A copy of the Bill of Rights for Victims of Sexual Assault/Harassment is available in the Student Union and Student Services. The complete policy and procedure is included in this handbook's Appendix F of the Student Handbook.

Children on Campus

Because of safety considerations, children are not authorized on College property at any time unless they are under the immediate supervision of a parent, guardian or registered student. Children are not permitted in class and are not to be left unsupervised.

Pets

Consistent with the N.J. Department of Public Health, the presence of dogs, cats, and other pets is prohibited in all buildings except where their presence is necessary for research or instructional purposes. Working dogs wearing harnesses and in the control of their owners shall be exempt from these provisions.

Affirmative Action

Salem Community College is committed to equal opportunity and affirmative action in all College activities. Concerns or complaints should be directed to the College Affirmative Action Officer Joan Wilson, Student Services, at 351-2709.

Guests

All invited guests are expected to share the same responsibility for the community as do its members; even so, enrolled students are personally responsible for the behavior of and> damages caused by their guests. Guests may not attend classes without prior permission of the instructor. Invited guests attending College programs are expected to comply with all SCC rules and regulations.
