Glass Center - Instructor Profiles

Internationally recognized artist Paul J. Stankard – a 1963 graduate of Salem Community College – is known internationally for his delicate, nature-themed paperweights and botanical glass sculptures. His work is included in permanent museum collections in nine countries and has been featured in over 50 articles and videos. He has received several awards for his contributions to the field, including the Urban Glass Award for Innovations in Glassblowing Techniques. In 2000, Paul was awarded the prestigious honor of being named a Fellow of the American Craft Council and was elected to the ACC Board of Trustees. In 1999, he was named a Distinguished Alumnus by Salem Community College. The College has named the gallery in the Glass Center in his honor.
In recent years, he has lectured and taught workshops in the United States, Scotland and Japan, influencing new artists throughout the world. He continues to promote the formal education of flameworked glass at Salem Community College by providing artistic guidance and teaching classes.
